      The Bahamas negotiated the restructuring of $215.7 million in Eurobonds and an $81 million commercial bank loan, replacing them with a lower-cost $300 million loan. This freed up significant funds.

    2. Conservation rledge:
      In return, the Bahamas committed to using $124 million of these savings to protect its marine ecosystems, including mangroves and coral reefs—crucial assets for mitigating climate change and supporting biodiversity.

    3. Monitoring and reporting:
      Independent organizations, like NGOs and financial partners, oversee the allocation and impact of these funds, ensuring they contribute meaningfully to conservation goals.
